ESP's Eclipse model (the black guitar) started out as the MA series (the yellow guitar- discontinued... duh!). Much of the revision was in the body; the current Eclipse features a curved top as opposed to the beveled edges of the MA. However, the original features are still preserved in the LTD version (the white guitar) but the treble side cutaway of the LTD is deeper.
The Eclipse was the first single cutaway guitar I played which wasn't repulsive. The neck profile was different from a Gibson Les Paul, rightfully so as it's not aimed squarely at duplicating it.

signature models are often based on the basic's features with some quirks added. eg: Hetfield's fake killswitch...
