Starla X

Earlier in the year, I've set my mind on the PRS SE Korina as a possible acquisition. However, with the debut of the Starla X, my focus has shifted.

Unlike the other PRS models, the Starla X feature a more traditional tune-o-matic type bridge so for us dweebs who use thicker string gauges, intonation issues will no longer bog us down.

I believe PRS do offer an adjustable stoptail bridge replacement for its guitars.

yes they do, i nearly invested in that as they don't offer it as standard offering, only for selected models in the mean time. how much for such a replacement? about $300. worth it?

Hey Sub,

Check out these cheaper alternatives to PRS's adjustable tailpiece:

Pigtail Aluminum Wraparound Bridge

Schroeder Stoptail Bridge

The aluminum one seems extra cool -- all the hype about old Les Paul bridges being made of lighter weight alum, for a more airy tone?

Cheers!

thanks Al for the links... not looking to increase gauge size anytime soon as over the years, i've realized i can't play well with thicker strings so no point investing in such bridge replacements.

i've been following the PRS philosophy & Paul is rather meticulous when it comes to issues concerning the bridge, nut & tuners/ machine heads. PRS' stop tails are very light by default, much in line with the early LP bridge units which give off some of the best tones around.
