Sounding out (4)

Gibson, you charged us a premium for your pickups, you boxed them in this faux leather container which is - from the bottom of my heart - unnecessary. From the looks of it, it's not cheap stuff. So we know what we are paying for at the counter; what we are willing to pay for (the pickup) & the stuff you made us pay for. Also, look at the trash that it's filled with. You can do better in terms of environmental consideration.

Folks, the item in that excessive packaging is the Dirty Fingers humbucker. This is a bucket list item for me as mentioned previously. I'm still a take-no-prisoners, all out distortion monger & constantly looking out for pickups to deliver my tonal carnage. Since it's available,  & I have a little extra to spare after selling off stuff; why not. Full appraisal soon.

A quick re-string while I'm at it - a DR set of 10s.

My Les Paul CM T with the solo DF humbucker to slay 'em all. This has to be my go-to LP for some wicked, blistering, OTT distortion.

Beyond 10

This happened last weekend. The 10.5 set went into my Gibson LP CM to accommodate a slight detune- everything a half step down. This gauge set is not available at the stores here, I bought it online. I have a particular assignment for this guitar & only this gauge set could move my mind away from dealing with floppy strings while playing. 

Omega LP

Holiday eve- managed to drop by Beez's to get this done. The former pickup in there was a Bare Knuckle Black Hawk with tremendous amount of output & sizzling distortion but that's not it for me. I prefer something with clarity but not piercing in terms of tone. It shouldn't mud-out at high gain settings as well & Seymour Duncan's Omega is a worthy replacement. Not a Mark Holcomb fan in this respect, I just hear what works for me & disregard the endorser associations.

How uncluttered things are when you have only one pickup to deal with. Thanks to Beez once again for keeping things in check.

Single Sunday

Was over at Beez's yesterday to have a new humbucker installed in my Gibson LP CM T- a Bare Knuckle Black Hawk. It was an unlikely candidate but it was necessary to prevent myself from buying something else that I didn't quite fancy. Back to some focus playing today- all high gain madness in Eb tuning. I just love single pickup guitars. :-)

Gibson LP CM T: First impressions

This was gonna come next year but since it's here in the stores already: Gibson Les Paul CM T (2016) :-)

LP purists will hate this for its thin body (it's as thin as an SG) & that single pickup. The neck profile is also a little different; feels flat at some places & I prefer this to a rounded profile. No bottom end boom so it's definitely gonna put the LP camp off. Absolutely gloss free- yeah!
