Gibson: ZW Moderne

We can still smell the freshness of the re-issue Gibson M-III but Gibson wants you to smell this one as well- Zakk Wylde's Moderne of Doom. A limited edition Moderne (existed but never released) with active electronics & a Floyd Rose locking vibrato unit.

I was gonna reserve more respect for Gibson after the M-III move but with this one, I feel the manufacturer is giving itself a reason to look through their dusty design shelves to cash in on the forgotten. Gibson has every right to do so, of course, who are we to disagree.

Maybe they should re-issue the RD...

... since the band Ghost is the flavour of the moment & they are RD toting people. But then again, Ghost vs Zakk Wylde... never mind.

Wylde BFGs

Following Gary Moore, Zakk Wylde now has his signature models in the BFG offering. However, unlike the true Gibson BFG incarnation, the ZW versions feature a humbucking neck pickup & no kill switch.

In addition to the filling up of the manufacturer's coffers, I feel the BFG manifestation is a treatment that works. If you are too perturbed by a guitar which dings easily due to a lack of a durable overcoat, it's highly likely your needs are traditional. The fundamental BFG offering serves the players who embrace a familiar working feel & tone but still preserving the key Gibson values. I bought the original BFG model because it's how my Les Paul should be, a little brighter sounding & devoid of costly aesthetics- feel & tone above everything else.

Red-Blue-Red-Blue...

Beez did a cool thing with his Marshall ZW Micro Stack- he modded the power indicator light to blink red & blue throughout play. This does nothing to tone, of course, but it makes you seen. SO all you attention seeking dweebs, this one's for you...
