MOMM (6)

Latest 2 acquisitions:

  • Naglfar - Cerecloth. This is their 7th full length release, reduced to a trio. From Sheol onwards, the production got more contemporary losing that crusty black metal vibe but all is still good in terms of  intensity. Can't help but hearing parallels to Cradle of Filth in this release.
  • John Mayer - Sob Rock. Absolutely loving the laid back '80s vibe in this one. Despite New Light being released way ahead of the rest of the numbers, it fits in perfectly. John Mayer will always be that someone who will get away with whatever music he churns out; people look up to his songwriting prowess regardless of the genre he's dwelling in.

Naglfar: Teras

Naglfar has Teras for us after 5 years since their last emergence. No let-down here, just business as usual for this BM band. This is one of my go-to bands, the music stood firm since the band's beginning, even after the departure of notable vocalist Jens Ryden. In this release, they are without a permanent drum, all skin beatings were laid down by Dirk Verbeuren, maybe he should consider settling down with the band... Fans of Sheol will miss much of the relentless pace in the songs, they are indeed heard in Teras but we hear the band playing in a resolved atmosphere this time round.

A little side-tracking here, guitarist Andreas Nilsson is endorsed by Salmath guitars...

... & Marcus Norman is endorsed by Manne guitars. You thought you've heard them all, no?

On that note, here's a Manne 10-string model.

Current spin

Some new release I've acquired (from Inokii) & listening to:
  • Meshuggah: Koloss. I'm a big fan of the band (not just the guitar duo there). The current music scene has a label genre for what these guys have been doing for years- DJENT. It's a pathetic label, Meshuggah had been peddling heavy music their style, people appreciate what they are doing & attempt to refer to it conveniently. One more time: There's no djent, just Meshuggah & the music thereafter.
  • Naglfar: Teras. A re-emergence by one of the flag bearers of black metal, not quite refreshing but essential.
  • Borknagar: Urd. Still listening to this one, holding back all opinions on it.
  • Morbid Angel: Illud... remixes. Majority of the tracks here are annoying. But I'm glad I bought it. Strange, but true... more on this to come.
