Music @ Angsana

Was at JB today, looking for some bargain work pants. Not that they are unavailable in the domestic shopping centres but the one here appeal to me in terms of the cutting / fitting. Too many slim fit ones at the local stores, I'm more comfortable with straight cut these days.

Saw these in-house musicians at Plaza Angsana. They were located at the rear food court facing the open air car park. If you see them, please give generously, the vocalist is a visual impaired individual who can easily out-sing those semi-pathetic hopefuls you see competing on TV.

D'Suara

Was at JB earlier today & watched this uncle played some oldies & contemporary hits to while away the moments while the Mrs. & Aunt went shopping. He's stationed at the entrance of Plaza Angsana.

That Gibson there is not the genuine article - custom headstock, black body binding... these are obvious red flags. However, the tones that he pulled off (no pun intended) were more than decent. Also, uncle played his guitar effortlessly, most of the time, he's not looking at the instrument, the infallible auto-mode took over. He didn't mind his photo taken as well. Nice guy with an equally nice set of tones (clean / driven) to ply his trade with. Respect.

At C&M

Was across the Causeway yesterday, managed to drop by C&M's Tampoi showroon (Plaza Angsana). There weren't too many people in store, so I managed to try the Ibanez RG470PB.

This isn't a new model, it's at least a 2015 version judging by the serial number. The instrument per se was in very good condition but the action could have been better as my 3mm pick slipped through the gap at the 12th fret very easily. The bridge's fine tuners were almost maxed up so there wasn't enough play to effect subsequent tuning here but the guitar was in tune less 2 strings. Everything sounded pleasant in both clean & driven mode through a Marshall MG combo. I didn't play much due to the high action, just getting a feel of the neck. Despite the Wizard III spec, the neck felt thinner & very straight (several sightings done).

Not quite Fender

Friends, for those of you who frequent Plaza Angsana at JB, this store should be a familiar sight (@ Level 4). It has a good collection of desirable guitars but be wary of the used collection on offer (near cashier area, displayed on multiple-guitar stand on the floor), one of the Fenders there (reverse headstock) is not an original article. This is not an implication that the store is a front for pirated instruments but I have a feeling the store personnel themselves don't quite know what came their way when they acquired it from its owner.

If you are the store owner & you are reading this, I have absolutely no intention to disrepute your business; your store chaps are friendly & obliging, I give them my thumbs up for that. However, if we are dealing with major brand names in our premises, we should be wary of what's in store as this might hurt our business' goodwill upon discovery regardless if it's a bona fide mistake in offering it for sale.
