Gibson 2018 (Part 2)

Gibson's Firebird Studio survives another year & offered in a P-90 pickup configuration come 2018. However, the fretboard is now granadillo & please pay USD119 more for this version. Granadillo is a close-grained wood, rather dense, similar to maple in terms of acoustic characteristics. So is this a deserving rosewood substitute? It remains to be seen but comparing the two wood types in terms of likeness is rather futile as they are different. Substitution is not the approach here.

The Explorer also sports a granadillo fretboard for 2018 & price goes up by USD140. The respite here is that it now sports a pair of Bursbuckers. OK, I personally prefer the Burstbuckers compared to the default Series 400 pickups which could sound muddy under high gain. Then again, some of us rely on Gibson for that wooly, woman tone.

Nothing new, you've seen this Ibanez RG655 before. But it now sports a new price, won't go into details here because some parties would deem me the disillusioned price police threatening their commercial prosperity. The RG655 is now 45% more expensive than it used to be. Reasonable upward revision in prices? It's still the same RG655 since it started. For you to ponder over the weekend. 😒

Epi LPs: Revised prices

Good Friday morning, just a quick word on behalf of Swee Lee: Please look forward to a revised price range for Eiphone LP models, majority of which are indeed reflective of the current market prices- the Les Paul Standard Plus Top (above) is one of them.

Price watch

Epiphone issued a MEMO to its distributors recently for its revised instrument prices, the objective of which was to make them more accessible to buyers (price-wise). I've included two of Epiphone's best sellers here in Singapore, the LP100 & the LP Standard. Effectively, drawing from the new prices:

• LP 100: SGD318.50
• LP Standard: SGD510.40

I'm not demanding shops here conform to these revisions- NO. There are too many other considerations  to expect a corresponding change to be observed here. It'll be interesting to see any development(s) in prices pertaining to the Epiphone brand of instruments; let's keep watch if the effects of this price revision trickle down to our shores.
