Stick 'em up!

Some people said I've desecrated my guitars with undeserving stickers...
  • These are my guitars so exercizing some creative liberties are within my discretion
  • If I feel better with external implements on my guitar, then everything else does not matter
  • These stickers were done on pickguards which are replaceable when the need arises
  • I have some guitars to spare when it comes to manifesting artistic considerations, so why not
Bottom line - others need not go with your flow. Whatever makes you happy.

Special single (3)

Someone asked me if the pickguard was custom-designed. Answer: No. It's a DIY thing starting with a blank pickguard for a lone humbucker.

Then came the stickers - $3 for 50 pieces. I like these stickers as they are waterproof so the top layer won't peel off easily when it comes into contact with moisture. In this case it's sweat from the hand.

A lot of patience went into trimming the pickguard edges. A very sharp blade is required otherwise the edges would fray.

Call of Cthulhu (5)

A much delayed conclusion to this episode but just wanna share the sticker experience.

The body was covered front & back. About 80+ pieces of stickers were used.

All in all, it's not something I would encourage others to do in view of the time spent on this. However, if you are game to try, be sure to select the sticker type that is water resistant & has good adhesive. Do not be upset if you end up using more stickers for a particular spot than others. The sticker method allowed me to cover up the middle pickup cavity rather easily. That was filled up with sponge first then covered up by stickers. Waterproof, strong adhesive stickers - plenty sold online (eg. Shopee).

Call of Cthulhu (3)

I got this guitar for cheap & it needed some attention especially in dealing with the body finish. This S370 has a quasi-trashed body. It was badly scratched in some areas & had chunks of wood missing as well. It's like it might have been run over by a trolley or chewed up by a dog. I used wood putty to fill up the various cavities like the ones you see above. This was left to dry for a few days & sanded the surface back to shape. Really grateful the adhesive properties of the putty saw this through.

The sticker treatment for the final finish.

Relic?

This happened at the recent Summer NAMM - Phil X showing of his relic'd guitar. Not.

Those relic marks are actually stickers. The people at Inzane Skins will get you going & the above Les Paul examples are just some of the designs available. If you are interested, do note the prices - these are in USD.

Stick

Cool thing happening with Fender Japan - every time you purchase a Made in Japan Modern instrument...

You'll be given a set of complementary stickers...

So that you can tattoo your guitar with them.

If you've been reading the entries here, you'd realize that I'm quite a sticker fan but I keep them off the bodies. They usually show up on the cavity covers so that should the stickers inflict a permanent damage to the surface/ you nicked a spot while removing them, those covers are easily replaceable. 👍

Wall of stickers

Beez has this wall space full of stickers above his amps, so if you are bored waiting for your turn in queue, looking at this will help kill some time. Hopefully.

Stickers

I kinda miss my Ibanez RX which I've sold off quite some time ago, the body was riddled with stickers. Therefore, being the sentimental person I am (oh, really...?), I have assigned my Smash S2 to be my current stickers host, as seen above.
