Ibanez 2013: Andy goes Premium

Ibanez has a nother Premium family member for our considerations this year, it's the Andy Timmons signature model. Despite the 'Premium' tag, this guitar is an 'as-is' model; meaning- the specs are as original as the upper tier AT model in the Ibanez catalog. However, this one might be a regional exclusive, the reason I have not mentioned it earlier. Shucks. 

Journeyman's PRS

This is fresh for 2013- PRS' Neal Schon signature model (NS-15) featuring a Floyd Rose bridge in there. I respect what Neil wants in his guitar & having it in there regardless of whichever brand name carries his signature. Players his age would cry foul of having such implements in a guitar this elegant but what has edge got to do with needs?

How many frets are enough?

See this guitar? It's nothing new, was available as a limited edition model for 2011 (sadly, not offered here). Want one?

For 2013, Ibanez is offering it as a Standard production model- RG550XH. It goes beyond the 24th fret for all you solo freaks but it doesn't make it a 'better' guitar, you won't be deemed as a 'better' player as well if you can go that far. However, it's a tool, if you have any need for frequencies more friendly to dogs than to the human audio range, by all means use it. Personally, I'd like to get a feel of that extended cutaway; would it induce me to go beyond my comfort zone & master something unconventional?

Goth pack

Epiphone has a Goth SG as part of their starter packs (the manufacturer calls it 'performance pack'), it features a kill-switch. Wonder if this kill-switch thing is fashionable now...

Fender's Competition

New for 2013- Fender's Competition Series effects pedals. There's 'Fender' in there, no doubt, but whether they give you what you wanna hear, is a another story. We'll just have to hear it in action :-)
