Selling: Ibanez RG331M (SOLD)

Saying goodbye to the RG331M. This is a barely played guitar, intended to be kept as a collection piece, so was kept in a hard case. The way I see it, Ibanez is not big on maple fretboards & we wouldn't see them in many guitars less the RG550. Even so, the latest iteration of the RG550 has a granadillo fretboard.

Parts of the instrument that came into contact with the hard case's interior reacted & became stained as depicted above. Hard case was disposed so it only comes with a bag.
  • Ibanez RG331M, bag included
  • Stains due to reaction with hard case
  • Self-collect @ CCK mrt station
  • No reservations / trades
  • Queries / confirmation: subversion.sg@gmail.com
  • Price is FINAL (non-nego): $420
Guitar SOLD: 5/11/21 🙂

Re-string Saturday: Orange

Wanted to hear some DiMarzios in action this morning so the Ibanez RG331M was it.

Slight make-over- orange strips...

But before the playing happened, a fresh set of strings- Dean Markley's coated set. Actually, I dislike the coated strings feel after my Elixir experience. So I thought, it might be the brand name, so giving this set a try.

Orange week

I've been playing my Ibanez RG331M this entire week. I am re-visiting my effects collection (the reason you see me letting some go for bargain prices) & this is the best guitar for the job. It being an Ibanez is half the reason, the other being the DiMarzios in there. You would've read in my accounts here that I'm not too keen with DiMarzios but these are the pickups to be testing effects with. Personally, I can hear them withstanding severe signal processing & still manifesting some tasty tones at the end of the chain. I could have Duncanized it like the rest but I'm not averse to the stuff not on my preference list. They have their applications & I'm one to acknowledge this.

Ibanez RG331M: Gum dropped

The first Panasonic Gum Drop capacitor I bought (initially mentioned here: CLICK) went into my Ibanez RG331M. As seen above, the installation was expertly handled by Master Beez, who had it on board, together with a new push-pull coil split switch, in no later than 6min.

I also gave my RG331M a fresh set of Dean Markley HELIX .009s & it felt great, as usual.

When it comes to objective comparisons between brand names, performance is marginal when the products in question are manifesting identical ingredients. Such is the case of Panasonic's capacitor featured here compared to its Sprague's Orange Drop counterpart. There would be more audible differences if this comparison was about switching from a PIO or ceramic capacitor to a poly unit. No love lost, though, the Gum Drop is an impressive performer, on par with what the Orange Drop has to offer.

Ibanez RG331M: Pickups cavity

The Ibanez RG331M is a dual humbucking guitar as documented in the manufacturer's catalogue but beneath its cover, the guitar was routed for an HSH pickup combination.

Ask & you will be enlightened

It seems that I've been updating Ibanez models which are not available at Swee Lee... or is that really the case? There is a batch of new Ibanez models which shipped in very recently. They are not on display yet at Swee Lee's Bras Basah showroom due to space constraints, they will be up for perusal once the store make-over is in its completion phase. If you are interested in any of the recent Ibanez models (if you are a true-blue Ibanez fan, you'd know what they are) Swee Lee will do an availability check for you with price quotes so if you don't see what you want in store, simply make an inquiry. They did just that for me, hence my acquisition of 2 recent models: RG3XXV + RG331M.

I'm definitely not Swee Lee or an employee by any means but it's interesting to note the number of queries I received pertaining to stock queries & prices, he he...

Here's wishing everyone a good week ahead :-)

Ibanez: RG331M

The new addition is my Ibanez RG331M. A simple guitar sporting a fixed bridge & maple fretboard. It's not a regular production run, a limited edition release for spring this 2012 but as you noted, it's here a season later. Also, it's not offered in the USA, so we're kinda lucky to have it here.

My thanks to Swee Lee for bringing this model in upon my recommendation, so it's not a special order after all; recommended for general offering :-) I'm sure there are many of us out there looking for an affordable, no-nonsense dual humbucking RG since the discontinuation of the RG321 (for this region).
