WEF 2010, the SZR series are removed from the manufacturer's offering. This means, Ibanez has no more mid-priced, set-neck, non-whammy bridge model for our consideration. The SZR was the successor to the discontinued + fantastic SZ model. Despite being quirky in looks, the SZR did what the SZ models had to offer- chunky bottom end with ample definition in the mix. The 25.1" scale length acted as a bridging reference for us Fender (25.5") & Gibson (24.75") fans.
We now see where the manufacturer is going with their current production. This year, the RGA range has taken the limelight.

hopefully there still few around lurking in guitar shops, coz this model was still in my wishlist...
there are plenty here bro :-) people are not interested in this guitar despite it being very reputable in terms of playability & tone. it's also much cheaper than the SZ, about $350 cheaper as it's made in China. i am in love with the Neodymium humbuckers :-)
that's a relief... hopefully it'd be available til next couple of years
it's mimic the marty friedman's signature, minus the blue colour and the stars that is...
I think I saw one in Swee Lee last weekend. Really thinking of getting one as I want my second guitar to be a fixed bridge. Not very keen on the actives on the RGA. Has it been discontinued because Marty Friedman is no longer an Ibanez endorser?
I think the RG and its derivatives get too much attention. I have an S Series and love it to bits, pity there's no longer anyone to champion the S series like Mr. Gambale in the 90's.
the SZ models are still available in store (swee lee). the SZ doesn't hinge upon Marty Friedman being an endorser, it was in existence before Friedman came into the picture.
