Yes, I have .010s in my acoustic. Too thin you say? It's a personal choice, it's the most suitable set for me. Any thicker then my fingers suffer & my playing will suck.

Also, I'm very happy with this Gallistrings Lucky Star series for acoustic guitars. The strings give off that very earthy resonance, perfect compliments for the wood. Nothing too bright to such an extent you hear the strings more than anything else. It boils down to the bronze in the mix as well as great QC so they don't feel repulsive under your fingertips.

Re-string: Maestro ET-1

Early morning re-string: my Maestro ET-1. The more I try Elixir strings, the more I wanna try something else. So seen here is a pack of Gallistring Lucky Star LS10- a set of .010s, naturally. I'm also the type who dislike thick strings in acoustics. You can preach the goodness of having such strings in acoustics to promote sustain & volume projection which I already know but they don't do me good; this is the over-riding consideration. Whatever it is, it has to serve my needs (& quirks). I also managed to lower the action a wee bit.

In order for discovery to happen, we must be willing to let go. Gallistrings is one of my preferred, lesser known brands since I moved away from Ernie Ball & friends. In addition to a moisture absorbing envelope, the manufacturer had a final plastic seal to preserve the freshness. I've not come across a bad pack of Gallistrings before so that speaks a lot about QC. Gallistrings feel like someone took a pack of DR & maintain the rigidity but added a nice feel to it. In terms of longevity, they definitely last longer than D'Addarios. The .009 set you see here costs $6.90 at SV Guitars. Gallistrings feel nothing like Ernie Ball, D'Addario or Gibsons. If you are familiar with those brand names, you know where I'm going with this.

Strings Sunday

Was in town yesterday, despite the foul weather, to get strings. Glad I took the train as the news reported flooding at the Orchard Road stretch. Purchased the above 3 packs:

• Dr Duck nickel alloy set. I've not tried them for quite some time now, I feel the need to 'remember' the feel of strings which I seldom use.
• SIT Power Steels. Some of you might know that the SITs are rather bend-friendly, even the steel set. This 'soft' factor might be the reason why my frets last longer. Since the steel Curt Mangans are not available, I've been turning to SIT/ D'Addario for my steel needs.
• Schecter Decimator for 8-string guitars. It's not easy owning 8-string guitars, strings availability is a recurring pain I have to deal with. The Decimator is really testing my patience, not that they are lousy but they are essentially a set of 10s which isn't my preferred range...

Fowl strings

I asked my daughter to choose a character to pose with these strings & she picked the chicken. Why this one? She saw the rooster in that Gallistrings product logo, that's why.
