Dream 2026

Heads up if you're a fan. I'm sure many of us here are looking forward to Portnoy back in action with the band. FYI, 3 February 2026 is a Tuesday, workday night for many of us.

This was news at the turn of the weekend; Mike Portnoy is back in Dream Theater. I have stopped listening to Dream Theater. I only like Images... & Metropolis (Part 2).

Myung Bongo

This is official - EBMM did a signature for John Myung & it's based on a Bongo. It's a 6-string bass but  spec'd like a 5. That's right folks, the neck width was compressed to feel like a 5, meaning, it's narrower but still accommodates 6 strings. It's definitely aimed at those rapid fire moments for his Dream Theater needs. That fretboard there isn't an anomaly, they call it the split board, combining both rosewood & roasted maple. There are currently no details as to why John prefers EBMM to Yamaha as the latter brand name saw him through the greater part of his music career as he's mainly seen strapping on a Yamaha through DT's rising years.

Dream Theater: A Dramatic Turn of Events

Many listenings later, I find DT's A Dramatic Turn of Events to be rather ordinary. It's not a bland release by prog's master quintet but that sombre element is present & quite restraining the songs. However, in terms of heaviness, this one's a pleasant surprise. Much expectations lie with  Mike Mangini's competency in replacing Mike Portnoy & the former skinsman levelled his performance with the latter but there were no surprises in terms of technicalities.
