Lacing

Got these because they were clearing for a good price. Let's see which guitar these would go into. Hope to do it by this weekend.

Sweet singles

OK this is definitely consolation. Days ago I was whining about some dead end single coil tones but putting things in perspective, I just needed some high output single coils to make my day. Thankfully, I have those in the house but not in a Strat. Seen above, a pair of hot Mojo Tone Knockout pickups. Paired with a booster unit & my go-to pick, it was a good Sunday. On days like this, I'm just grateful I have what I want, it's just a swap away so no excuses.

Embrace death (3)

The Deathbucker went into my BC Rich Gunslinger.

Master Beez gave it a thumbs up as well. We were taken aback by the cleans, definitely.

Summary of the Deathbucker performance:
  • high output pickup, absolutely impressive with lots of distortion
  • manufacturer says, it sounds like an active- yes, that's audible & present
  • how about the cleans? As this is a passive pickup, the cleans are above-average. Has an impressive performance in split mode, true to the manufacturer's claim as well, it's quiet even with distortion dialed in
  • cleans to die for- as in, will it rival a PAF-type pickup? No but the cleans here is really something considering it's a high output unit
The Lace Deathbucker is available at TYMC, yours for $125 :-)

The lone cruncher

The lonely humbucker in my recently re-finished S-Series is the GFS Crunchy Rails. It's a super-charged pickup with reduced mids but not really a scooped sounding unit. Those vintage-inclined dudes won't like it, it's all modern, high output whack. If you are looking for something good in the cleans, it's also not quite the pickup to look up to. I was gonna try something different so here it is.

Metal!

It's about time- PRS joins the high output, in-your-face pickup camp. Interestingly, this pickup is known as the \m/- as indicated (rather discreetly) on the pickup cover. Regardless, we need to know that it's a ceramic-based, high output humbucker, suitable for a selected genre delivery.

Sonic pickups of death

Many of us are familiar with this Nazgul- you did watch Lord of The Rings, didn't you?

The other Nazgul is Seymour Duncan's latest addition to the fold- high output, chug-friendly pickups. Currently offered for 7 & 8-string instruments only, it SHOULD be a good alternative for many of us. Some sound bytes here:
