Light case

Didn't know this is actually real; a hardcase with a lighting feature for those of us meddling with gear in the dark. Obviously aimed at the pros who require such visual assistance. Available at Davis GMC (GAtor GC-ELEC-LED $180).

Re-string Saturday

Still in the mood for some Ibanez. Let me tell you why I like this guitar - it's darn light. It's less than 3.5kg. This is my SIX6FDFM, one of the Iron Label models before they discontinued this colour, gave it a grey make over & a pair of Fluence humbuckers. Not my thing. The other thing that I fancy here is the blank fretboard. This is the first S-Series I own that sports a revere headstock.

A fresh set of GHS 9s before playing started.

Good light

These are two of the lightest Gibsons I own - Firebird Tribute

Melody Maker SG

I'm beginning to like these two more than the rest of the Gibsons & it might be down to the weight, definitely. These lighter Gibsons, they sound clearer while still retaining a good bottom end. OK so the heavier Gibsons, Les Pauls in particular, they excel in giving us that big, boomy, bottom end. There's actually no superiority in terms of tier standings; these less costly Gibsons, they deliver something which might appeal to a niche group of players, I'm certainly one of them. Some of us just need that clarity when playing single notes, we don't need wooly woman tones like some people do. We thrive on heavy, gain-inclined music, our needs are different. Special mention goes to those default Firebird pickups; they are something.

Light up

Spent some time this morning with the MT-15. Giving it more 'tests' before putting up an appraisal.

When I looked up the ceiling, I saw the MT-15 making its mark. 😎

Watching it

This is definitely guitar-related 😁

I'm particular about strapping on light watches because that's my fretting hand as well. I have small hands & heavy watches (metal frames/ chassis, G-Shocks, etc.) are a definite no for me because it fatigued the hand rather quickly while playing. But come to think of it, I've been with light watches since 1990, way before constant guitar-ing took over my life. On that note, those of you who put on watches onto your picking hand, do not be offended if the salespeople at guitar stores request you remove it before testing their instruments for an obvious reason- it scratches the instrument's surface.

The case of seeing clearly

This is a more applicable acquisition for the pro performers dealing with dimly lit stages & backrooms. OK, so it could be a case of seeing things at a remote corner of our houses without waking everyone up in the middle of the night. But how many of us would be that tragic? 😁 Anyway, thumbs up to a practical consideration.

Dark & light

Gibson has just released a limited edition 7-string SG in black...

... & white. I'm interested because they feature a pair of Seymour Duncan pickups by default. The only disagreeable thing here is its limited run of 300 worldwide. Darn.

I have decided to go the Telecaster way so this blank Strat-type body is up for grabs. It's a B-grade (meaning: NOT a perfect piece but definitely not defective) poplar, very light-weight. Some screw holes had been filled, there are some pencil marks there as well.

Light hum

Some of us would make an extra effort in switching our 3-pin plug head to the type equipped with an indicator light; this would give us absent-minded chaps a visual reminder to turn off after play. However, the light source here, unknowingly, adds background hum, audible through the amp...
