K-Gold

Kramer had released a lineup of 50th Anniversary guitars which are actually current production models finished in gold. Why gold? Because the 50th Anniversary is also known as the golden anniversary. My favourite is the Night Swan depicted above; I actually like seeing this model in it brighter / lighter colours.

SC Monday

Yet another episode of staying indoors. The guitar if choice today was this PRS S2 Singlecut Standard in gold finish. Nothing fancy / special, just a singlecut with a limited run finish.

While playing, the knobs were rather stiff. A quick check revealed no deterioration / anomalies. A quick contact spray treatment did the trick. Those huge orange drop caps were replacement units for the default ones. The two volume pots are Gotohs while the tone pots (with default push-pull coil split options) are default units.

The humbuckers here are also replacement units, the 57/08 models which, as the name suggests, micmic the Gibson 57 models. I hear more treble coming from these pickups so they are my kinda pickups. Costly pair but worth every cent.

A pack of fresh SIT .0095s for the playing experience today.

BG / WG

Not new, definitely, but given the gold hardware treatment. We all know the proverbial guitar that sports this black finish - gold hardware combo. Here it is...

Nothing, new indeed. The black - gold finish just exudes class & the Les Paul Custom had been an enduring image in this light.

The Fender Japan camp also offer the white - gold combo if black is not your thing.

Ibanez 2025 (4)

When everyone thought Ibanez was through with its 2025 releases, 6 more were announced today, all being signature models. One worth mentioning here would be this Joe Satriani golden affair, the JS1GD. It's not exactly the Chrome Boy counterpart as the number of frets & pickup combo are the current iteration of the JS Series. The manufacturer had issues with the chrome finish on many occasions, hope they made this one right.

Golden bar

Seriously, Ibanez... you're offering this as a separate purchase? We know this is complementary for only one guitar out there. Unless there is a demand for this to go with black / white / red / blue / green guitars. Is there? In any case, it would look mismatched & downright... ugly.

Gold pieces

I'm not a fan of gold hardware; they fade off over time, especially when in constant contact with the hand.

However, some of the instruments out there are equipped with gold appointments for aesthetic appeal. I'm kinda obliged to complement the details they missed out. Will gold pole pieces improve tone? No.

Gold?

There was that time when someone asked me if I have ever bought a used guitar. At that point in time, every guitar I own was new. I was averse to buying pre-loved instruments namely because of how people have no TLC for their instruments. Once these deteriorate beyond their liking, they would offload it to someone else who doesn't mind inhering dirt, grime & rust. However, this particular Ibanez S470 was in pristine condition. The owner gave up trying to cope with a dual action whammy bridge namely dealing with tuning frustrations. Folks, make it a point to mentally shift into adversity acceptance if you wish to embrace such bridge units. This is especially so if you have been the hard tail/ tune-o-matic  lover prior to this migration. Back to the story - tone major downside to this guitar was that the whammy arm tightening bushing was missing. So this was perhaps my first ever guitar bought used. It was indeed hardly used & was originally black.

There was also a cosmetic issue seen here - discolouration due to a possible reaction to rubber parts/ adhesive. This was no major setback for me as it does nothing to playability. I ended the deal with a winning feeling, especially so when I paid peanuts for it.

The un-blackening (3)

After much spares-hunting & waiting, my re-finished Ibanez S470 is ready for revival today. Will be heading down to Beez's after lunch for the electronics to be done & it's good to go.

Gold bird

Gibson's Gold (finished) 50th Anniversary Firebird. Honestly, if you are GASing for this, is it the guitar per se or that wicked finish?

The un-blackening... (1)

This is one of my Ibanez S-series which was originally black...

... but after this morning, it sports a gold finish. The hue isn't obvious in this pic, would update one taken in broad daylight. I'm waiting for some spares before showing the complete make-over. Stay tuned...
