JS-Duncans

Nothing fancy, an entry-level Jackson JS11. I'm re-visiting my preference for 22 frets.

Since I have these two lying around, they go into the JS11 giving it a much deserved voicing for heavy / intense music. The Alnico II Pro sounds surprisingly good in this guitar considering it's not one of my favourite Seymour Duncan neck models. I prefer the '59 or Jazz for some dynamic responses. I was expecting a Slash-esque tones but since I don't have a Slash set up to begin with, things turned out pleasant. The tones from this one are at least meeting my expectations. The Dimebucker is something I'm used to hearing & it's a welcomed inclusion here.

TQMS1

This is a fine one by Ibanez this Summer NAMM - the new Ibanez Tom Quayle signature, TQMS1. I was thinking it would be another Strat-type take with a rosewood fretboard (because that's the one he's seen with lately) but this Tele-style is a good variation.

The TQMS1 is a case of putting a partial pickguard on a regular AZS body, as seen here. The layaouts are exactly the same, even the Seymour Duncan pickups are the same Magic Touch (n) & Alnico II Pro (b).

The coolest thing about the TQMS1 is its finish - the blue there is strictly on the front's top. Flip over, it's a natural finish, flushed with the neck.

Beez sonic

Was at Beez's yesterday. Pickups & capacitor installation in 10min.

So here they are, Seymour Duncan Custom Staggered (b) & Alnico II Pro (n) in my Fender Duo-Sonic. Some kind of appraisal soon.

Duncanized Paisley

The Paisley tele had undergone its initial makeover phase.

Pickups swapped out to Seymour Duncans:
  • Neck: Alnico II Pro
  • Bridge: Lil '59
Also- Gotoh brass saddles with rotation capabilities. Much twang was compromised here largely due to the pickups but I have other twang-worthy teles so no love lost, really. This guitar has a nut (factory) slotted for low profile settings & I'm grateful for that.

Gibson: SG Special (Faded Edition)

This is my first, truly enjoyable Gibson; the manufacturer's name is legendary but it has limited appeal to me. The Faded SG has what I prefer- a non-gloss neck finish. I can't quite live with a gloss finish (but this didn't prevent me from getting a Les Paul/ PRS) as this overcoat gets cruddy over prolonged play especially if one's hands sweat excessively. I am also a big fan of satin finishes as this accentuates more midrange from the instruments natural resonance.

The guitar was originally equipped with Gibson's uncovered 490R pickups which didn't win any favour with my set up (especially so when it comes to single note clarity) & were very quickly replaced with Seymour Duncans: Custom 5 (b)/ Alnico II Pro (n). I find the SG (regardless of the variation) to be initially repulsive due to this playability factor- the neck's heavy nature neccessitates the player to hold it up while playing sitting down, otherwise it would kamikaze. Nevertheless, this Faded is a joy to play, certainly one of the more played guitars in my camp.
