The King's new guard

Long time King Diamond's guitar maestro, Andy Larocque, had departed the band. Gus G is the new replacement. Larocque had been at the helm for 40 years. It pretty much defined his career. The way I see it, Laroque doesn't sit well with inactivity, so together with Dee, Blakk & Patino, they are entitled to keep their mojo going while they still can. Nothing against the King, but music-wise, it's a good move for Larocque & gang.

Jeans + Converse shoes = a potent rock formula for success. No kidding. Van Halen started out with jeans & a pair of converse shoes- he's a legend now. Maybe we should all reconsider our performance wardrobe.

Eclipsing the LP

The ESP NT model has been Gus G's preferred guitar. This is what Gus has to say about it:

But I've got so used to playing with the NT shape that if I pick up any other guitar it feels strange now.

Subsequently, the signature EC model was conceived when he became Ozzy's guitarist; why was it necessary? Apparently, Ozzy asked Gus if he plays the Les Paul because there is a track record of his guitarists being Les Paul players. The answer to this query reflected why Gus G sticks to ESP:

..., I hate Les Pauls.

But as a compromise, Gus had ESP make him the EC model we see above. So now we know what went on. In my opinion, if you respect the player, let him use whatever he wants.

Gus G, the new guitar slinger for Ozzy, has a new signature model out this coming spring. Unlike his former protrusive body shaped guitar, this new release is simply a personalized Eclipse model featuring a 25.5" scale length instead of the traditional EC 24.75" & it's an LTD. What makes this guitar unmistakable is the flame fretboard markers, a signature of sorts, exclusive to GG.

So Gus G is Ozzy's new guitar commander. It would only mean great exposure for ESP. Nothing quite as big as Metallica had since showcased the ESP brand name, with this in place, it's a firm rooting for the manufacturer.
