Ibanez: Open pore

The Ibanez RG350/370 are new in the Standard range. I'd say these guitars are rightfully there to perpetuate a no-frills, mid-price affair. New this year would be the finish. These models were given an 'open pore' treatment, meaning- a non-gloss overcoat with the stain sunken into the wood grain. Together with the binding treatment, it's a fair regurgitation to stir some interest among us who are in search of RGs in this price range.

Re-string Friday: Ibanez RG370

This Ibanez RG370 belongs to my colleague, Mr. Khoo GV- re-string/ reconditioned fretboard/ lowered action. It's been a while since I handled colour-coated strings but I must say that the current generation of coated strings are more resilient than their predecessors.

Variety!

Quit whining- we now have a good range of mid-priced Ibanez models with different body wood to choose from. Above pic: (From top to bottom): RG370 (basswood)/ RG470MHZ (mahogany)/ RG470AHZ (ash). They feature the same hardware & bridge type (EZ-II thumbs-up!) so these pretty much give you a fair comparison across models. Price-wise, they are also in the same bracket. The RG470 models are pending price listing but inferring from the tier they're from & the features on board, they shouldn't exceed $800.

I'm expecting this comment: Basswood so there's more bass in there, right? :-/
