Ibanez: July '24 (2)

Also new this month, from the Ibanez camp, is the RG470PB. The immediate impact here is of course the poplar burl top. To some of us the burl top just looks messy & unattractive but given this finish, it looks aggressive & attractive. Nothing is too special about this guitar, even the pickups are the in-house Q models & that EZ II bridge is just a utilitarian affair. Body is a meranti. Coming form Indonesia, this is a convenient acquisition more than an attempt to be unique.

At C&M

Was across the Causeway yesterday, managed to drop by C&M's Tampoi showroon (Plaza Angsana). There weren't too many people in store, so I managed to try the Ibanez RG470PB.

This isn't a new model, it's at least a 2015 version judging by the serial number. The instrument per se was in very good condition but the action could have been better as my 3mm pick slipped through the gap at the 12th fret very easily. The bridge's fine tuners were almost maxed up so there wasn't enough play to effect subsequent tuning here but the guitar was in tune less 2 strings. Everything sounded pleasant in both clean & driven mode through a Marshall MG combo. I didn't play much due to the high action, just getting a feel of the neck. Despite the Wizard III spec, the neck felt thinner & very straight (several sightings done).

A big thank you to the C&M staff who helped me along & the pleasant experience.

Ibanez: RG470PB

The Ibanez RG470PB is now available at Swee Lee ($699) & it's one of the models to feature the Std DL bridge (Standard Double Locking). This bridge was a recent fitting in the more current models & looks to be a return to familiar days. Familiar because it looks very much like the TRS models fitted into the midrange Ibanez models in the late '80s -'90s. I'm not trying to talk you out of buying a well-made guitar (yes, the guitar per se is awesome for the money but if it proves to be a re-naming of the discontinued TRS then you are better off buying other models in the Ibanez range with a more established double locking bridge. Let's not dwell too much into the details because personally, I consider those TRS a done deal, they were dead & buried but maybe some people feel there is a need to resurrect past episodes.
