Nobel segue

Way Huge has released this interesting little pedal - the STO WM25 overdrive (Super Terrific Overdrive). It's a little hazy, by my understanding especially, as to why the STO is cited as a country music stellar supplement which is mirrored after Nobel's ODR-1. One gear-related website went as far as saying it's country guitar's great secret sauce. I'm not aware the ODR-1 has that association to begin with but this is not to discredit both pedals; they sound very good for the application, whatever yours might be. I hear some clear treble end responses despite the punters dubbing it as a popular mild midrange bump. Anyway folks, do listen to the clip here:

Overrated

It finally happened - got my Overrated Special. Nothing new, really, just that Way Huge shrunk it down to this size & I prefer it this way. Appraisal soon.

Platypus driving

New by Way Huge- the Purple Platypus. OK, if you're a fan, not so new because this is the MKII version. Once upon a time, the MKI version came without the Hi Cut control so this is basically an octave drive unit with an option to smoothen the tone some some proto-synth experience.

New rhino

I recently did away with my Way Huge Green Rhino MkII. So in came the MkIV which is of a smaller built & a little tighter in its midrange performance. Update soon :-)

Especially overrated

I'm waiting to get my hands on this Way Huge pedal- the Overrated Special. Yes, it's alluding to that Dumble amp. No I'm not a fan of the amp. I'm interested in the re-interpretation of the tones, just like the Klon. In fact, I'm going to cascade it into another drive pedal for some personal adventure but let's just wait for it to be here first.

Way Huge: Saucy Box

An interesting release by the Way Huge chaps- the Saucy Box. It's an overdrive with a mixture of cleans in the signals so it's like a 2-in-1 deal with lesser knobs. On my to-check list :-)

Animal drive (Way Huge content)

This is a new one by Way Huge; the Red Llama overdrive. The RL pedal was already in existence some time back (that point in time when we were not into guitars YET). If you have bought the Green Rhino but felt that you are in need of a more up-front, less EQ-tampered drive, the RL might be it. Wait till it's here, of course. No, there's no Camel Distortion in the works.

Pork innards

The (Way Huge) Pork Loin overdrive pedal possesses a trio of inner pots for more tone meddling. The 3 trimmers are:
  • A Filter control: Messes with the clean preamp. It works with the Drive Mix to determine the amount of clean headroom available at lower Drive Mix settings.
  • Presence: Just like how it works in an amp, it's in charge of how much top end is enhanced/ suppressed in addition to the EQ control.
  • Drive Mix: I see this as the drive sweep control. It determines how much drive you can finally manipulate via the primary overdrive control. You can set it to its narrowest option so what you get in the end is a clean boost, no drive at all.

Way Pork Huge Loin

Knowing there's another overdrive unit offered by Way Huge (@ Davis GMC), I just had to check it out. Buying it wasn't really on the agenda but it happened anyway. The Pork Loin is actually the restrained sibling of the Green Rhino. It's not capable of manifesting an excessively thick, creamy drive as indicated there for all to see: SOFT CLIP INJECTION. However, it's not as up-front as it looks, I'll tell you why next time...

Rhino Drive

I waited for this pedal to be available here to hear it in action because Montreaux's Screaming Lady proved to be too much distraction for me- they are both the overdrive manifestations I prefer but the GR here was my pick this time round. Sound clips to come...

The Way Huge brand name is actually a division of Dunlop. I find the mad scientist + over-sized brain motif rather repulsive but it remains to be on the pedal's underneath, out of sight during play.

Other Tube Screamer-type pedals I own:
  • VHT: V-drive
  • MXR: GT-OD
  • Guyatone: OD-2+
  • Biyang: Mad Driver
  • Biyang: OD-8
  • BOSS: OD-3
  • Visual Sound: Route 808
  • Rocktron: Austin Gold
  • Behringer: VT911
