Desktop Mustang

PRS, Gibson & Fender were absent from Summer NAMM 2022. They'd be foolish not to introduce something new this time round not as a commercial obligation but as a virtual shoutout to let guitardom know they have plans of their own. True enough, Fender released the Mustang LT40S (to debut in stores this August), perhaps as part of the plan.

This is a desktop utility amp, one which can interact with your computer to further tweak features. I must say Fender is quite late to the game. BOSS & Positive Grid, among others, were there & did stuff which had successfully gained fans along the way.  This lists for USD229.99 so it's not that appealing, price-wise, if all you need is just an amp for desktop practice.

Yamaha: THR next gen

Yamaha recently unveiled their new generation of THR desktop amps (THR II). A large fanfare feature here is the inclusion of wireless access. I've seen the features online & watched some promo clips & feel that it's basically a re-hashed version of the previous camp. Not trying to dis Yamaha but the wireless dongle idea had been done by Blackstar but in terms of a full functioning amp offering in a desktop format with very little compromise in terms of tone, the THR series is a very good reference. In my books, it's more nimble than its nearest rival, the BOSS Katana amps (the desktop ones, not the full fledge combo).

Adio

So Vox released this pair of 'ultimate' desktop amps rather recently (Adio Art GT/BS) & we should take notice. It sports a very FLY 3-esque dimension but has an upper hand in terms of tone by giving the user 2x3" drivers. I have no idea how this would benefit a guitar experience in terms of tone (the FLY 3 pulled off some of the best desktop offerings with just one driver on board, lest we forget) till I hear it in action maybe soon.

There's one for guitar & the other, bass. This pic here is one showing the guitar version from top view- rather feature packed & aimed to please in terms of variety.

Lots of distractions from the video clip above but enough to showcase what's expected if you decided to fork out some money for one.

Mummy fly cinders

Had been a crappy week. But more importantly, I still got to play guitar, this evening included. 🎸 Kept it light. It's any guitar that's within reach plus the line up above: Blackstar FLY3 amp, TCE Cinders OD & my fav Mummy pick.

Brown black

A simple set up for the evening; a CMATmods distortion pedal & a Blackstar desktop amp. Sometimes I feel very tired at the end of the working day but there's a very strong urge to play guitar, especially after listing to some very inspirational playing. I urge everyone out there to have a lazy set up going for days when you just need to play without the excessive preoccupation with tone.
