Gibson: Les Paul Studio Hot Rod

Yet another newbie by Gibson & it's something not prohibitive- a Les Paul Studio. If you don't already know by now, the Studio is a trimmed down version of a Standard & stripped off all cost-inducing binding. So that's the Studio in a nutshell. The Hot Rod you see here is Gibson's interpretation of what happens to the studio after being given some advancements. The body was thickened to match a standard. Pickups- hotter pair of 500T/496R. The fretboard's a blank- my kind of fretboard!

However, take a look at the fretboard material; would there be anyone out there doing a victory dance & badly wanting a Les Paul with a composite fretboard after reading this? Also, the those pinstripes on the body- that's, em... quirky. I might consider this one if they have left the body top alone. Something to ponder- why pay for a Studio with 'upgrades' if a bona fide Studio is fine with you to begin with? Another shot in the foot , it seems.

I like the pin stripes they are painted not stickers. They are not overdone just enough to give the guitar a new custom kind of look.I really like those pickups and the body being as wide as a std les paul it should give it a better tone.In my opinion it's a Les Paul classic from a few years ago before the classics got ruined with those 57 classic pick ups.all that's missing from it being a classic is the binding on the guitar, otherwise it's a classic with a cool paint job that for once isn't a flame top burst like everybody already has. thanks Marty...

Although I would rather a real ebony or a dark rosewood fretboard I dont mind the composite one.I got used to it's feel after I bought a explorer shaped Gibson Melody Maker. with one seymore duncan high output pickup and one volume knob it sounds great and plays some rock and metal easily.I counted the number of different types of Gibson Les Pauls just in an American Music catalog and counted 17.It must be confusing for a newbie to choose which one to buy.To me the studio hot rod was a breath of fresh air.
