Ghostly

Nothing much folks,  just spending the Sunday with my new picks - the Uno (l) & Planchette (r). I can no longer play thin picks; these are 3mm. Any thinner & it would make me flop. OK so I use thinner picks for acoustic stuff. That's something else. If you are interested in these picks, do check them out here: Northern Ghost picks

Picky

I do not believe in settling down with a particular pick brand. On some days, my trusty, go-to pick would let me down in terms of feel & efficiency. However, I do have a particular liking towards some models offered by the various pick brands out there. I'm pretty much settled with Gravity's 003 model. Seen here is a customized version; 3mm & a set of grip holes in the middle to ensure angry picking stay on course with the pick in tact & definitely not flying out of my hands into oblivion. I also love the coarse, unpolished side bevels which reduces the clicking contact sound of hard picks against the metal string surface.

Return of the King

I thought I was through with this one. After a re-visit of sorts, I realized why I bought it in the first place. If you wish for a smooth string-to-string transition, this one's recommended. Or rather, anything with a more rounded tip, is recommended. Thick, hard picks are not for everyone. They have a niche appeal, especially for some of us with playing quirks. I find this one superb for ultra fast riffs. Since I'm in riffing mode in the mean time, it's my current fav.

Killing Alice

Very bad picking for the last few days. So went back to what worked well for me when it all started (when I started using thick picks, that is)- a 3mm Stubby-type pick. Seen here is my Alice pick since I don't have any Dunlop with me. Also, the Killing Floor had more gain going this time to help my picking out. That's right, more gain for me means less picking effort & less lethargy, definitely.

Under the lash of gravity

My current fix right now- Gravity picks (another mention but worth it, I guess). As seen here, the orange tint indicates the 3mm thickness, some of the picks feature a polished bevel, others do not. I'm down to choosing this preference, so a little trial & error here & re-ordering was inevitable.

The unpolished edges mean you get a raw attack, very rewarding if you are the riff-ster type, you dwell on the lower, wound strings mostly. However, for plain strings, I'd say it would manifest a hindrance in terms of speed. The polished edges on the other hand are too 'slippery' for wound strings but its smooth contact would win fans with shredders.

Bro Ijau, if you are reading this, I think I sent over a thin version for you to try. If it's good enough for you, maybe you can latch onto my subsequent orders.
