Selling: Montreux Knebworth

This used to be my favourite pedal back in the day when I still embraced the amp's clean channel. It has a booster feature so it's like 2 pedals in 1 & it did good for my solos. The tones on offer here are basically tube-esque Marshall voicings with an option to scream (boost). It's not even the modern Marshall tone, somewhere in the Bernie Marsden drive territory.

In view of my unemployment in a few days' time, I'm letting this go to, hopefully, tide things through the year end. Box included. As you can see from these pics, it's been well taken care of.

Was at Beez's yesterday to get this pair of Teslas into my Fender MP Jaguar. The default pickups were above-average clean but not that enticing when it comes to overdrive. By the way, Teslas are going for 25% off at SV Guitars this sale season.

Did a capacitor replacement as well- it's a Montreux Retrovibe this time.

Last but not least, a quick re-string with the no-frills D'Addario XL set of 10s. Thank you Davis GMC for keeping prices reasonable! 

I'm very happy with this guitar not that it bears the Fender name, in fact, it means nothing at all. I'm fortunate to have come across a mahogany-P-90 pairing which is more meaningful to me. The bolt-on construction means there's more snap than what a Gibson could have offered in terms of tone, with the same combo. The Modern Player series were deemed a pathetic attempt by purists in selling the Fender name. This camp prefers to own a high end Squier than forking out money for any basement dwelling Fender model. But a deeper reading would reveal the fact that those people who handled the afore-mentioned glorified Squiers were indeed the ones handling the Modern Player series. 

Back from the dead

I could have sworn that there was no battery in my Montreux Knebworth pedal when I put it away just before the new year. As you can see above, that's not the case. The entire tip of this 9V battery was badly corroded, it got ripped off when I tried to remove it from the clip.

Compounding the damage was the totally deteriorated battery clip you see above. It's beyond saving & it needs a replacement...

... & Beez to the rescue! I sent him a pic of the situation & he agreed to help since the circuit layout wasn't cluttered & hiding the clip attachment to the power input jack. Beez keeps battery clips as  standby spares not for pedals but for active guitar electronics which came to him dead & required replacement at times. 

Montreux: Knebworth

Like the electric Pikachu, Montreux's Knebworth will only stun when provoked (ie. with the Booster function in use). In other settings, it gives you a great Euro-tube type tone; imagine a set of EL34s deep fried with a section of ECC83s & some convincing warmth to boot. I give the booster section a thumbs-up for its effectiveness- it adds character & depth to the overall tone dialled in & not simply an addition of lower frequencies.

Montreux: Knebworth

The Montreux range of effects pedals are now available at SV... pricey but worth checking out. I was there last evening to put the Knebworth unit to task not because it was full of false claims but because it features an effective BOOSTER section. The other pedals I tried with such propulsion on board, simply added more bottom end as if this is the venerable interpretation of what 'booster' means. The 3-band EQ section has a good sweep range to offer. Together with the Gain & Level meddling, you'd be having a good tweaking time. I am for the Knebworth simply because it possesses that Butah (CMATmods) voicing; a good drive which doesn't overwhelm the user's default tone. The Knebworth lists for $420.
