Same seller. When the VM Baritone debuted around 2021, it was listed for USD600 +/- but along the way, this one somehow gained cult status & listed for about USD1K (SGD1,341) in the after aftermarket. I don't recall seeing this black version being brought into the stores here but still, paying that much for a Squier?

Price is too good to be true but understandably so as it suffered a broken headstock along the way. If you trust the standard of this repair, by all means, go ahead.

On a personal note, I prefer broken headstocks to be repaired with splines (above) as an approach to strengthening the broken areas. This is a more assured way but not the compulsory standard to observe, it depends on the type of breakage. Stay away from broken headstock instruments if you can.

Squier @ SV sale

Heavy rain for hours today but I was at the SV Guitars Sale. Selected Squier guitars are now included in the sale event. Seen here are a pair of Vintage Mod Strats.

Vintage Modified vs Modern Player

Many of us look up to Squier's Vintage Modified models as these offerings are the label's higher tier selections. This Jaguar bass is a case in point.

We recently have Fender's Modern Player series (made in China) to consider as well. These Fenders are arguably the most affordable & they are intruding into Squier's VM price bracket so come decision time, which one would you choose, the Vintage Modified Jaguar or its Modern Player counterpart?

Tasty VMs

It seems that the eager Squier chaps have added some tasty models to the Summer 2012 line, it's the best distraction ever- could it be? Which of these models would make good company for my Duo Sonic? Hmm...

I think this is a smart move by Fender- there are currently too many Fender distractions, some of the attention shifts to Squier this time. Squier 2012: VM 70s Strat

New for 2012; Squier's VM 70s Strat. Great looking, they even glossed the neck for the occasion. However, 70s Strat fans would be more delighted if the body's ash (period correct body wood) instead of the VM's basswood. I'm not putting basswood down (too many of my Ibanez sports a basswood body; they are all great guitars) but it affects tone. I've tried the Classic Series Strat- that was a great guitar.

Squier 2012: Surf Strat

Here's a cool offering from Squier this 2012: The Vintage Modified Surf Stratocaster. The highlight here is the trio of lipstick single coils. GASsing yet?

Squier has this new Jaguar Bass SS (Vintage Modified series) which sports a shorter scale length (30"); it's too attractive (for me) to ignore.

Squier VMs: Jaguar & Jazzmaster

These are the new Squier Vintage Modified offerings this 2011; the Jaguar HH...

...& the Jazzmaster.

In the true spirit of Squier economics, both guitars sport a much simplified bridge & controls.The Jag & JM spirit lives on in the overall outline of the instruments. While I'm definitely interested in both guitars, I'm inclining towards the JM for its maple fretboard.

Squier Jaguar

The above Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar bass would be released this coming fall & I look forward to at least giving it a try once it's here. Despite sporting some Jaguar attributes, be informed that it features a 34" scale length. It's from the VM series so there isn't any obligations to replicate the original attributes.

Squier: Telecaster Custom

My other tele is a Squier, nothing too exorbitant despite the manufacturer designating it into their upper-end offerings- The Vintage Modified series. The monicker here alludes to the guitar's nature of incorporating both contemporary & modified features of the Telecaster's glorious history. Nevertheless, despite this reverance, the guitar remains ordinary but displays higher quality control as the Squier brand name often implies cheap & compromised. Rest assured, the Vintage Modified instruments I have tried (basses included) are above average despite being affordable.
The original pickups quickly made way for a pair of TESLA Plasma II covered humbuckers. You might be aversed to this brand of electronics which hails from South Korea but they are very much worthy in terms of tonal delivery. The Plasma II possess a vintage voicing despite being hotter than the average 'vintage' unit (think PAF). The cleans also possess more sparkle, very complementary to blues crunch & a good tube amp.
