I would normally not visit this music store (no disrespect to Bentley Music whatsoever, the sales people there are some of the most courteous I've come across- salute!!) because I get good deals back home and the hassle of bringing home an instrument which would entail too may probes at the customs; I'm not that patient dealing with uniformed personnel (Yes, you people are doing your job but sometimes you are too judgmental & dismissive...). An avid follower of this blog, brother Ijau D. Koceng, tipped me off to the availability of this guitar. The list price was RM2,190. After a few minutes of noodling & proving familiarity with an Ibanez guitar as well as a Marshall amp, I asked for some discount considerations. The salesperson calculated his provisions accordingly & offered me the best he could endeavour: RM2,050. Elementary math would tell us it's not even a 10% discount... dum dee dum dee dum... *sigh*
The RGR465M is the current RG350M in another manifestation. In terms of feel, they are definitely on par but there are more likable tones from the former as the default pickups are DiMarzios- the Air Norton sounds above average in there but the Deactivator is simply menacing so all you distortion mongers be informed.
I didn't buy it. Yes, I was hopeful the RGR565 would somehow be reincarnated & now that its closest manifestation, the RGR465 is here to appease me (maybe), I should just shut up & buy one. But I didn't. It could have been better priced. Definitely.
Typing this entry while watching the 2010 Singapore National Day parade (not really watching actually, just hearing what's going on): Happy 45th independence to all Singaporeans...

the one that i've mentioned was in some famous guitar shop (not interested to mention the shop's name) in kuching, sarawak. got 2 units red and blue. with price tag almost RM29xx! (SGD1200-1300) d*mn~ that's a huge price different from kl counterparts
cool... this guitar seems to be available everywhere... except here...
i feel dealers offer their products oblivious to the guitar's make/ model. they don't give a hoot if the price tag for a non-Prestige Ibanez hovers over its Prestige counterparts. from a business perspective, it's legitimate as there is a need to cover cost, etc. a dealer here disclosed that the average guitar's list price is rather proportionately reflective of how much the dealer acquired it for, regardless of its 'special' nature. this is why, for instance, one of the X-series Ibanez lists for as much as one of the Prestige selection. if you are a conscious buyer opting for value-for-money, there's no question which guitar gets your priority.
speaking of dealing with customs, what would they do if I bought a guitar from S'pore and bring it back to Johor? would the customs or any other authority charge me whatsoever?
no- you would not be subjected to extra duties :-)
yeah! that's good to know
Subbie, why not check with BGW whether Brandon can bring in the model you want?
will do that in due time :-)
Ah, damn, BGW Guitars can't seem to get em, only model's from Musician's Friend.
we shall wait then... the RG465M is actually a one-spot production for europe. there might be better things to come :-) however, the 465 represents the top-of-the-line regular, non-Prestige model. having played one, i would say it's definitely living up to its reputation. a fixed bridge version would be absolutely welcomed.
Arrgh...the matching headstock & inlays reminds me of the elusive RG770!
Fitch
the RG7XX series are the works, this 465 performs well above average but it's missing that X-factor. to those of us who own the RG7XX & 5XX series, we wish the standard was revived...
