Epifirst: Old Glory (5)

My other beef with the Epiphone Old Glory LP is that rear headstock finish. This is a Gibson thing, they call it the stinger as the extension beyond the headstock heel there resembles a bee's posterior. There are some pivotal stories concerning the stinger. The most welcoming is that, it's a cascading mark from the custom shop reissue Les Pauls featuring big fat necks. Gibson even had the Les Paul Stinger models not too long ago with such a treatment. The other chapter to this finish concerns a QC-related matter where the stinger paint job helps cover veneer/ joint mark imperfections. Some say that it's an indicator of a B-Stock selection which the manufacturer did not wish to disclose. Whatever it is. having a cream stinger treatment on an all black guitar is a hallmark of an idiot. If it's a hue closer to black (grey/ brown/ etc.) it would look classy. OK so it doesn't affect tone in any way - thank goodness.
