These are two of the lightest Gibsons I own - Firebird Tribute
Melody Maker SG
I'm beginning to like these two more than the rest of the Gibsons & it might be down to the weight, definitely. These lighter Gibsons, they sound clearer while still retaining a good bottom end. OK so the heavier Gibsons, Les Pauls in particular, they excel in giving us that big, boomy, bottom end. There's actually no superiority in terms of tier standings; these less costly Gibsons, they deliver something which might appeal to a niche group of players, I'm certainly one of them. Some of us just need that clarity when playing single notes, we don't need wooly woman tones like some people do. We thrive on heavy, gain-inclined music, our needs are different. Special mention goes to those default Firebird pickups; they are something.
