These brand names are now being officially distributed at Swee Lee & it happened within a spate of less than 3 months. There is an increasing number of effects brand names calling it home there. While we are glad to see more options available, we hope Swee Lee spruces up its lineup of the seasoned brand names like:

• Way Huge- missing some newer models, the Overrated Special would be a good addition
• Fender- the manufacturer added a significant few in January 2018 which garnered critical acclaim but none are available here. Summer NAMM 2018 saw three more joined the range but the only Fender effects unit which is relatively current in store is the Malmsteen OD which won't excite that many here
• TC Electronic- the newer budget models still not seen (Choka trem/ Crescendo auto swell/ Eyemaster distortion/ etc.)

Re-string: Maestro ET-1

Early morning re-string: my Maestro ET-1. The more I try Elixir strings, the more I wanna try something else. So seen here is a pack of Gallistring Lucky Star LS10- a set of .010s, naturally. I'm also the type who dislike thick strings in acoustics. You can preach the goodness of having such strings in acoustics to promote sustain & volume projection which I already know but they don't do me good; this is the over-riding consideration. Whatever it is, it has to serve my needs (& quirks). I also managed to lower the action a wee bit.

Maestro Jr: Protege

Here's another travel-size/ Junior-size guitar I truly appreciate- Maestro's Jr Protege. I was recently invited to have a look-see at Maestro's Excelsior branch. The highlight was Maestro's revamped designs across the board (the elbow rest bevel is brilliant!) which are all a put off for me (serious!) because I'm not an acoustic person. However, this is a homage to fine craftsmanship, playability & tone which are totally born & bred in Singapore so it's definitely something to be proud of. They actually made me sit down & try all the different models there representing the different range & price points. 

The Protege you see above hails from a more affordable range which isn't short of quality despite the manufacturer's intention to entice would be buyers, price-wise. The immediate attraction is its neck- incredible feel especially for non-acoustic fans like yours truly who would very much want a sleek feel for those fast moments without sacrificing tone- we all know too well how shred-profiled necks just failed to invoke acoustic warmth.

I'm still in the midst of detailing this guitar as it's not featured in the manufacturer's homepage but I get good product knowledge from the sales people at Maestro & my special thanks to Mr. Saiful for spilling all the specs to me.

Re-string: Maestro acoustic

Another one for my re-string record: Maestro EA2. It belongs to a friend (Melina, if you are reading this- hi!). The guitar was in very good shape, just needed some TLC so it received a fresh set of D'Addario .012 & a quick fretboard re-moisturizing.
