1451

Took out my Ibanez RG1451 for re-stringing.  This is perhaps my least problematic, well-maintained RG in my possession. Pickups (Seymour Duncan): Jazz (n)/ Classic Stack + (m)/ JB (b). The bridge pickup is a trembucker model despite the instrument not sporting a whammy/ dual action bridge.

A little re-conditioning of the fretboard & it's good as ever. The RG1451 is one of the few Prestige models to not come with a hard case upon purchase.

Ibanez RG1451: Duncanized

After the acquisition of my favoured Seymour Duncan pickups, I finally had my Ibanez RG1451 Duncanized. Beez was responsible for the make-over, it's one of his sub-15min routine.

I would like to share with you the looks of the guitars' innards, particularly the pickup cavities. Note the special channel which passed through all 3 cavities as indicated; this is a thoughtful inclusion by Ibanez. As we adjust our pickup height & screw in accordingly, the wires underneath might get crushed. That channel ensures some room in there in the event that we screw in our pickups till they hit bottom but the wires don't get flattened unnecessarily. Neat, yes? The finish is also deserving of its Prestige tag- very tidy.

Along with the pickups swap, the familiar Orange Drop cap & push-pull switch to go with the tonal change.

The pickups in this guitar:
  • Neck: Jazz
  • Middle: Classic Stack +
  • Bridge: JB trembucker

Acquisition check

After my RG1451 purchase, it's time to check what's left to be acquired:

  1. Ibanez RG1451 purchased
  2. Ibanez RGA7 Not buying- pickups could have been better
  3. Ibanez RGD320 purchased
  4. Fender American Special
  5. PRS Singlecut Korina New target: PRS Starla X
  6. ESP Phoenix II purchased
The above were the guitars on my to-get list, drafted in March. I have bought 3 from this list, struck off one as regrettable & replaced another for a more alluring counterpart. The American Special remains to be a constant member here.

Ibanez: RG1451

The latest addition to my Ibanez family: RG1451

The RG1451 is the most fundamental member in the Prestige range; there is no fancy binding to effectively highlight this guitar as a cut above the standard selection. It is also one of the Prestige models to feature a non-locking nut (and bridge). That rather plain headstock would make it look like a GIO model from afar...

I am skeptical about investing precious dollars in this Tight End bridge as spares aren't readily available should parts deteriorate. However, the Tight End proves to be one of the most comfortable fixed bridge make I've come across largely attributable to its slanted edges. This means there is no abrupt change in feel between the bridge itself & the guitar's body, makes playing very pleasurable.

Ibanez: Prestige RG1451

The Ibanez RG1451 is now available at Swee Lee, it is positively one of the better playing RGs Ibanez has to offer. The body sports a satin, 'sand blast' finish so gloss fans, be informed. There is no hard case in the package despite it being a Prestige selection, just a bag to bring your purchase home. What I really like about the guitar is the Tight-End fix bridge which complements very low action settings. It also sports rounded edges for a very pleasant picking hand experience, especially so when you are a furious picker like I am.

List: $1,847.00

Ibanez 2010 sneaks (Part 5)

Fans of Prestige RGs but in need of a fixed bridge, the RG1451 will appease you. However, we note the bridge model isn't the regular fixed unit but the manufacturer's own Tight End version. Implication: Spares not readily available should parts wear...

The RGA model here (RGA42T), is given a whammy bridge but sports a neck-through construction. It is hoped that good tones would be the reason we choose to buy this one...
