Agility

This had been my (last) weekend's fix. Basically stayed home to work on ideas & thriving on just a single pickup. Might have forgotten to wipe the strings down because they were stained / black today. A deserving re-string today & onwards to my next adventure.

Drive to play

I've not been touching the guitar lately. There's no desire to play. I kept in touch with music by listening to it. As it turned out, feel & tone kept me away from it. For the last fortnight or so, it's been the Les Paul. The tune-o-matic bridge had somehow hindered me from playing properly. 'Properly' here refers to the ability to execute fast ideas without glitches. I might be espousing speed & tactile playing somewhat but that's the nature of my being, it's mostly aggressive speeding. Also, those Gibson pickups are appealing on some days only, on other days, I need to hear something else.

This morning, the Agile took over & it was a much needed alternative. I play better with a bridge type that lets my picking hand feel the body most of the time. It's comfort proximity. I started playing with an Ibanez so that pretty much summed it up; I've been conditioned on that feel all along. The tune-o-matic bridge came much later & it was an exercise in adaptability. So at the close of October, all is not lost. I appreciate having different types of guitars in the house to remediate moments when I feel the cause of playing is all in limbo. Have a good week ahead, folks. Stay safe. We're into to final two months of the year.

Fusion Thursday

Spent time with my Agile Septor 625 today which was left unplayed for quite some time.

The pickup mounting ring cracked at one of the corners & broke when I removed the screw. I gave up looking for a replacement piece because Agile used a slightly longer version back at the factory & the ones sold in the stores here are mostly spaced for Gibson. I managed to find one online & waited for more than 10 days for it to arrive. I have a spare DiMarzio humbucker in the house & it went into this guitar (Fusion Edge). It sounds rather likeable here. Hmm...

Chirality

Agile guitars has a new headless model released recently - the Chirality. Seen above is the 627 version. I'm holding out for a standard scaled version. Hope there is one in the series soon.

Epic

If you think a roasted maple neck & stainless steel fretboard will manifest costly instruments, these Agile Epic are USD399. We wonder why guitar manufacturers out there wouldn't want to re-think their instruments' spec.

Power of 10

An Agile 10-string 😑 Here's the proposition- tune 6 strings to the guitar frequencies, the remaining 4 lower strings can cover the bass range. How's that?

The power of 10

A 10-string mammoth by Agile- Septor Elite 1027, darn! While it reeks of musical intimidation, judging by how the lowest/ thickest string had to angle inwards to wrap around the machine head, it would pose tuning issues to the uninitiated. The string gauge for this monster: 009 - 110. Who sells this kind of string set? Hmm... 🤔

Headlessness

The Agile camp is now offering a headless guitar & this got me excited. Having gone through an Agile myself, I can only say good things about this manufacturer whose niche is churning out affordable 7 & 8-string instruments at very reasonable prices. The plus point here- this guitar does NOT require double ball end strings to get things going. How about that?

Legacy

Agile has joined the partial cap top finish in the style of Kiesel & Ibanez.

Available in these two offerings in the mean time. Will consider if they have the 6-string version...

This is a ukulele

Aw, darn! This is a ukulele. Seriously, the Agile people are doing limited runs for electric, solid body ukuleles. If you are dreaming of distorted ukulele tones or some creative possibilities with delay/ looping units, it's now or never.

Agile: Septor Pro 625 EB Nat Ash Custom (2)

I'm with simplicity these days. People warned me against being too simple to such an extent I am left with no options to vary my tone. Well, there are many of us out there who would rather work with the options we prefer & this is what I prefer in the mean time; bare minimum. Reason- more focus on ability than excessive tinkering.

I've replaced the default Cepheus humbucker with a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker to complement the light ash body. The overall acoustics sound bright so the Dimebucker adds bottom end girth while accentuating the ash's brightness. Yes, that's quite the Dimebucker specialty- elevating that brightness into a rich harmonics content. It's quite the opposite of what a Duncan Pearly Gates would do, really. As usual, all re-wiring done by Beez, including the push-pull coil split (volume knob) option. If not for the push-pull affair, Beez would have done it under 10 minutes.

Agile: Septor Pro 625 EB Nat Ash Custom

This is my latest catch, an Agile Septor Pro. It was initially a custom order but it didn't make the cut so it was sold as a B-stock (more on the reject factor in subsequent installments). More importantly, it's to my specs & I wouldn't pass the chance without giving it due considerations. After 3 days of thinking & some correspondences with the Rondo guys, it was a done deal.

The Agile stuff are definitely worth every cent. In fact, I deem them to be the highest dollar-to-quality product out there & this is done without the backing of an assuring brand name (brand name goodwill adds to cost, not to quality). If you have been playing guitar for a while, you would know that brand name doesn't guarantee anything, especially quality deficiency. How about cutting corners where nobody could see? That counts too. This isn't my initial deal with the Rondo guys & I know where these products stand in terms of purchase satisfaction. Certainly not my last from Rondomusic :-)

Douglas

Some of you might know the Agile brand name- value for money guitars, really. The Septor 7-string you see above is a mere USD330... (SGD421/ MYR1,063)

Recently, the manufacturer launched the Douglas range of guitars which are the more economical interpretation of their Agile models. The Grendel here is USD185 (SGD236/ MYR596). We will soon find out the Douglas QC on offer :-)
