SLO stuff

It's been pedal-related lately, from SOLAR, BOSS & now Soldano. Not many of us could relate to the Soldano goodness unless some personal encounters happened along the way. Also, Soldano stuff are not readily available in this region & if they are, it's gonna cost a bomb. This newly launched SLO pedal promises to be a very close encounter of the real thing. Of course, we know better. Soldano goodness needs to be supplemented by features that would complete the Soldano pre-requisite, the very least of which is a cab speaker. There are plenty of the SLO pedal-related videos out there but if you have to watch only one, then please take time to watch the following coverage. At the end of it all, remind yourself that a Soldano pedal & a Soldano amp - these are two different things.

Mini beating

The good guys at Beat Buddy has released the lite version of the aforementioned pedal- Beat Buddy mini. Despite a 50% reduction in price, there was no total migration from its predecessor into this compact manifestation, meaning, some of the editable modules/ patches were not included. Whatever the case is, I hold the BB name in high regards for being practical in terms of considerations, not forgping

Bang pedal

Debut pedal by Orange amps- the Bax Bangeetar. I have no idea what's going on behind the name but it's good to know the Orange chaps are bringing their tones to us on a more portable platform. Glad that it's a 2-in-1 concept & it looks promising, more updates to come.

Gaining & boosting

I've been playing pedals lately. A pedal revival is not happening at my place because I own pedals all along, just that I don't feature them in my line up unless it's necessary. This here is a very affordable Artec boost pedal. If you are into clean boosting, most probably, this one isn't favourable. In addition to a mark up in volume, the pedal offers some servings of drive due to its high gain nature. The 2-band EQ you see there are unnecessary but they add some dimension to tone & I bought this pedal due to just that. In its entirety, the GB can offer the fusion-type player some of the smoothest drive (think Alan Holsdworth/ Tom Quayle) if s/he chooses to cascade a mild overdrive unit into it. Sweet.

The Artec Gainer Boost pedal is available at both SV Guitars & TYMC.

Randall: RG13

This thing is a beast both in size as well as in tone. The RG13 is both a pedal & an amp. That's right, you can plug the Randall RG13 in as a pedal or do that straight into a speaker cab (it has a 1W power rating). Not much here to please the vintage dweebs but if you are into distortion, this one might just be it. Hear it in action:

Seymour Duncan: 805 Overdrive

Scored! Seymour Duncan's 805 overdrive... a seemingly ordinary drive pedal. That's until you hear it in person. It's got some creamy drive going at certain settings, a lead-type tone if you emphasize some top end & quite the heavy metal generator if you max it out with a bottom end highlight. The louder your amp is, the more responsive this pedal becomes. Pedal comes with all the accessories here.

To be continued...

Digital domain

In the mail today. Not about to replace my rig with digital devices that thrive on interpretations but I'm putting my iPad to good use.

Runaway Fender

We don't see Fender making pedals too often, so this recent release- it's a feedback generator- is indeed a rare feat. If you are keen on feedback, you know you'll need a rude amount of volume to trigger it but the Runaway pedal here lets you have your feedback-ing moments at lower volumes. Watch this:
