I thought of doing some Ibanez updates but since ESP/LTD did their Phase III unveilings yesterday (Friday, 3 Jan), the instruments on offer mean more to me so they get the priority. OK so they decided to hype things up this year by looking back in time. Not too far back though, it's the late 1980s when everyone's trying to be shreddy-ier than others. The model you see here (Eclipse '87) is the initial Eclipse model which is Tele-esque. It later evolved to become the current LP-esque Eclipse which are selling by the truckloads everywhere.
Here's the enticing non-whammy version (Eclipse '87 NT) that successfully underscores the fact that simple designs will appeal if done right. Pickups are SD '59/JB for both models.
Anyway folks, it's never gonna be a true recreation with a design compromise. Back then, this was the original headstock outline which we now know is a subject of copyright issues. It would have been splendid if the manufacturer commissioned the current version to fully realize the original aspects just for old time's sake.
