You are looking for an affordable singlecut guitar with above average tones but something definitely affordable, Washburn's WMI14 should be on your checklist. When I played it yesterday, the thinner-than-Les Paul body gave it a different voicing plus the fact that it's a basswood unit, the guitar was definitely something not of the Les Paul type when it comes to tones. The maple neck was of a wider profile, again moving away from the LP expectations. If you solo in the neck, the in-house neck pickup has lots of definition for your widdling pleasure.

Could it sound better the Peavey HP Single Cut 2011?
an in house neck pickup with good definition?? am i seeing right?? o.O
we tend to be dismissive of no-name pickups, often not crediting them if they're worthy. should it bear the word GIBSON/ FENDER to qualify as good in-house pickups?
well...havent heard a good stock pickup at the neck before. its always been too muddy for humbuckers or too noisy for single coils.
the neck pickup characteristic will always be wooly & 'muddy' to a certain extent :-) manufacturers just vary this voicing to our liking.
i like the wooly-ness. but many a time it gets too wooly and being a humbucker, its fat in nature, so the clarity disappears. or at least thats what i find in most stock neck humbuckers =/
ah... :-) in that case you need to experience the P-90 neck tone.
right i'll take ur advice on that. thanks sub :)
it's an option you should explore. in everything we try, it's surely a 50-50 take when it comes to appeal :-)
