I saw this Ibanez RGA42T (new for 2011- look at the new bridge in there...) at Swee Lee's Sims Drive warehouse during the last sale (5th June '11). Have been wanting to try it because I handled it during the sale day & it was one heavy guitar. I managed to try it yesterday at the Bras Basah showroom instead & I was right about the tone- it features a pair of active pickups so any hope of the instrument's weight contributing to the tone was diminished by the circuitry.

Hey sub does active electronics really ignore the acoustics of the guitar??
i 'overpowers' the natural nuances...
hmmm same goes for high output passives??
in an active circuitry, the pickup is more subservient to the on-board pre-amp rather than manifesting the guitar's acoustics, output considerations aside.
So technically a cheap but properly built without any defects guitar can sound good with active pickups then?
the popular misconception here has always been ACTIVE = GOOD... there are reasons why some of the revered guitars around (tone-wise), do not feature active pickups.
