Alternative Cat

Beez called me midweek to say the (Sprague) Orange Drop caps are back in stock. So out came my Ibanez RGR321EX for a pre-installation inspection- I usually check the pots' working condition before bringing it over to Beez's. But I couldn't even turn either knobs after plugging the guitar in. Culprits: Deteriorated pots as seen above...

Master Beez did a quick, full-rewiring of the electronics. These fresh components were installed:
  1. Orange Drop cap
  2. 3-way switch
  3. Output jack
  4. Volume + Tone pots
I also had Beez install a push-pull switch for...

... the new pair of Seymour Duncan pickups in my RGR321:
  1. Bridge: Alternative 8
  2. Neck: Phat Cat
As this guitar sports a single-hum pickup combo as such, the push-pull switch in only functional for the bridge pickup.

My 'fresh' RGR321... just stopped playing it, by the way.

nope, there's no "master jedi" around here...

what is the push-pull switch for actually?

the push-pull switch is a coil split switch for the humbucker. meaning- the humbucker can be made to function as a single coil pickup because one of its coils is switched off. when both the coils are in use, it'll function as a humbucker again.

GAX010LTD have lots of empty spaces in it's cavity, unlike RG/GRG's cavity which was cluttered. there's lot of possibilities for future upgrades :)

Ijau, Jot from Zoso can do the cap installation, he said he had done it before with other cap. but the thing is, there is no orange drop capacitor in the store..

jot can do it? really? orange cap can be order elsewhere... hmmm, i wonder if he can also do pickups

pickup splits? right now my guitar is with him, I asked him to split coil.. he never done it before, but he said it can be done..

Ijau D. Koceng said...

no no, not coil-split but rather a common pickup-swap job...

well.. that i don't know...

pickup swap- if one is familiar with wiring schematics, popular brand names such as Seymour Duncan put theirs up @ the website. one can always refer to this for guidance.
