Blues buddies

These are 2 of my pedals bearing the 'Blues' label but I've never used them for blues. These are great drive-type boosters, they don't sound as polished as an overdrive, nothign too raunchy like a distortion either. You can call these the in-between pedals because that's the tone on offer.

BOSS Blues driver (BD-2)
  • I don't fancy BOSS pedals, they are superb to many players out there but to me they are acceptable, nothing bad aobut them, nothing too attractive either
  • The BD-2 offers enough dirt to prolong sustain but nothing over-powering to muffle chords, the jangle coming out of this pedal is very appealing (very suitable for blues-type drive hence its name)
Marhall Bluesbreaker II (BB-2)
  • when amps experience an increase in gain (not drive), they will naturally break up to produce some drive, which is the implication of this pedal's label
  • I bought this pedal because it has what its BOSS counterpart has to offer but with more poke without sounding harsh
  • the bonus here is that the BB-2 offers a driveless mode so it effectively functions as a clean booster, akin to what MXR's Micro-AMP does to your tone
