Worthy Quote: Jeff Waters (Annihilator)

Something we can all take note of, coming from Jeff Waters:

A lot of guys in the '90s started switching to EMG pickups, which squashed their sounds down. That works for manure metal bands, but us '80s dudes know that if you want the real chunk, you don't get it from the pickup. You get a bluesy, clear pickup & put the distortion at the amp.

I am not trying to prove anything here or shout 'I told you so!' but when it comes from a pro, it is, at the very least, a proven engagement. Remember the simple formula- make your distortion count the most at the amp, every thing else should supplement this intensity.

In other words, is it a low/medium gain pickup and straight plugged into the amp with no effects?

yea thats what i've been thinking all this while.

I need an amp with a good distortion,
thinking of Mesa/soldano/diezel.
but i'm just a student so i'll just have to work with really good pedals that does the job instead. I don't believe in the distortion from the lower end amps that i get thats why.

i see how you're emphasizing alot on guitar to amp. And i wonder how the electronics work when people use a ds-1, sd-1, ts models to boost the amp.

bro faizal: yup, straight-through plug in. i do this all the time :-) add pedals only if you think this type of set up isn't meeting your needs.

Zesn: too many of us are looking up to the bigger amps/ brand names as the standard in good distortion. but there are many amps now with on-par performance that we often overlook. Peavey/ Sound Drive/ Randall do offer such units for our consideration but we often dismiss them as not being thunderous enough like how our heroes do it with their boutique units. i do use pedals to boost my amps when the need arises. the immediate effect here would be the change in character & voicing which requires the need to further tweak the amp controls to accommodate this addition- this i try to avoid.

bro, i guess u have (or used to have) an RG with V7/V8 pickups in ur collection right?

in ur opinion - between INF and V equipped RGs, which one were more versatile?

so far i've only experienced STD and PSND equipped GIOs

bro the INFs are more distortion inclined, while the Vs do better cleans. but both aren't too fantastic/ appealing :-)
