Ibanez TS808HW

Ah, it's another Ibanez Tubescreamer incarnation but one with a touch of character as specified by the 'HW' suffix- hand wired. I'm not being dismissive with this pedal but the list price for it would rob you silly- $555. With this much money, you'd probably convince yourself to buy a new guitar/ amp instead. However, if you are a fan (like me), even the prohibitive asking price would make you consider, instead of aborting the purchase intention.

Tone-wise, the TS808HW still possesses that midrange hump that would make some of us cringe but this manifestation is a little creamier than its other siblings if that's any consolation for you in view of its differentiated pedigree.

is there any difference in terms of sound between hand-wired and normal screamer?

made in what country?

this is a Japanese product. as mentioned in the entry, this version is a little creamier :-) if you have ever heard the Fulltone OCD in action, it's akin to that performance. as to whether hand wiring would manifest a better tone- it's all too subjective.

its marginally better than the non hw version. try the maxon od808 instead, that one is about the same as the hw. cheaper too.
also try the mi audio blues pro, pretty darn good too. we have them all at musicmaster studio here in petaling jaya, selangor, malaysia.

hi bro Sub..

I have a question regarding your post on April 11,2010 - Guitar set up: Simple instructions (maybe) Part 4.... When measuring guitar's action, should the capo be kept on 1st fret after previous step? Or when you measure 1.5mm off the 14th fret for the high E string there is no fretting involve anywhere?

hi ash :-) the capo @ first fret is used to check for neck bowing ie. if your neck is straight or otherwise. it's coupled with the pressing down of the string at the final fret to check for any gaps (between the string & the fret crown) in the neck's middle region.

action measurements should be capo-free.
