I had the opportunity to try this bass combo recently, it's Ashdown's TourBus10. As the name implies, a 10W practice unit with a 6.5" driver. The EQ section is a mere 2-band (bass/ treble), together with a volume knob, things are kept simple. What I like about small bass combos are the note clarity. I also hear better definition with smaller drivers as opposed to bigger units; the bass does not need a low-end booster, it is already king in this domain. I'd (highly) recommend this to those of us starting out & in need of a good back up alike. Can a combo of this nature out-volume your drummer? If he stops playing you can... he he.

Hi,
I have a question, not about this bass amp, but about volume and guitar amps in general. I currently have a small practice amp, but when i want to start playing with a band of my own, what kind of a monster do i really need? Its hard to find what kind of specs is required from an amp to perform say, at band practice, at a really small club, at a medium sized club ? So how far can my Behringer GX108 15W amp go, or does the drummer immediately over power my sound ? And if i must buy a new, i rather make a good choice right from the start...
hi Anssi, i welcome all queries; it's a matter of whether i have the ability/ knowledge to address them :-)
if you are playing in small venues indoors, 50w/60w is sufficient at higher volume levels. in the open, going 100W in necessary if things are not monitored (ie. hooked up to the PA system), otherwise the former wattage rating would see you through.
15w isn't enough to rival your drummer, if you insist on playing this way, what comes out from you would be one big, mushy sound. you have a drummer in your band, don't you?
Eventulally when the band is put togeather, it will have a drummer :) I wanted to learn to play the guitar so i could play in a band with my friends. There is no band yet, and i have only played for a year. Got really hooked to the guitar... Still learning the fretboard etc, so its not that actual yet. Still, with all the spring sales around, it just popped to mind to question what i might need in the future, 1x12" or 4x12" and is 60W good enough. It seems it might be more than enough :)
Thanks for the swift answer! I just love this blog :)
