Cheap & cheerful (1): Schecter Omen 7

If you are looking for an affordable 7-string  guitar with lots of goodness in tact, do check out Schecter's OMEN 7. The build on offer is incredible for the money. Despite being in-house units, the pickups on board are above-average players. The OMEN 7 lists for $465 which makes it a great value-for-money purchase. However, be informed that the scale length is slightly longer than the average 7-stringer, going at 26.5"- but I've played this instrument without issues, I expected early lethargy to set-in but it feels 'normal' through & through.

Davis is the main distributor of Schecter so I believe they can bring down almost any model. =)

so far OMENS are in & the Synester models. i also saw an ATX 6-string if you like active pickups. there are selected models which Davis will not bring in as standard offering but available upon ordering :-) that's how i got my ATX C-8...

Hey Sub,what about the ATX C-7? Or any other 7 string recommendations beneath $1k? That extra string seems so tempting. :)

i've only tried the Damien Elite 7 which is about $400 more than the Omen 7 namely due to the EMGs in there. great playability from the instrument but the tone remains to be typical EMG which, if you are into distortion, is definitely superb :-)

465!! YEAH.....

hey sub, does the full mahogany construction of your ATX C-8 afftect the tone in terms of a lack of treble? I'm your typical superstrat(maple neck +basswood/mahogany body) user and since it's only available on special order at davis, I can't try it.

the wood's tonal properties has very little influence here as the pickups are active units- they over-power the former quite comprehensively. however, this isn't a negative contribution because active units manifest a sharper clarity which benefits baritone instruments or those with additional bass strings. i actually prefer active units in such guitars- both my Ibanez & Schecter sport active pickups :-)

Sub.what is active pickup? Any recommendation for me to get one.

active pickups have an on-board pre-amp which runs on battery power. EMG & Seymour Duncan make active pickups, among others. if your guitar isn't already featuring active units, i won't recommend you go active: 1. hassle of circuitry upgrade 2. fitting issues (especially for non-american guitars)
