Orange special

Whichever caps that came default with my Fender American Special, they are now gone. As seen above, I have Beez installed a pair of Orange caps in there. He took about 7min to get them done.

I also had pictures of girls on the pickguard this time round.

Finally, a set of D'Addario EXP: .009 - .042. This is a nickel plated steel version, we'd thought that the nickel overcoat would mellow the overall tone but these still sound very bright & crunchy.

Sub, always wanted to ask you this: why change your stock caps with the orange ones ya? Is it for tonal reasons? I could definitely learn from this. Thanks!

yes, it's definitely about tone. the orange caps possess this wider sweep than the regular caps, in fact, it sounds like a wah unit when the tone knob is manipulated very quickly. i can dial in a very boomy tone or a sharp prick in conjucntion with the pickups i select. many of us tend to set our tone knobs & leave it be throughout play. as for me, because the tone knobs are there to serve me, they should be put to good use :-)

if it's ineffective, then manufacturers like ESP won't have them in their (selected) guitars.

Hi Subversion!
Just wanna ask, if the the organge drops do a wider sweep for the tone, what does it do for the volume? I heard of a treble bleed circuit. Does it makes the guitar produce brighter sounds?

no... it retains treble clarity as the volume knob is turned down-notice that the guitar's overall tone would become more bass inclined as it is turned down. this mod is to counter this situation :-)
