Satch's fretting hand

The next time you watch Satch play, pay attention to his fretting hand. Joe Satriani has this peculiarity of assigning his index finger as a 'muter/ dampener', choosing to lay it across the neck to filter unnecessary noises instead of using it as a primary preference for fretting individual notes.

cool coz i was doing the same thing like him just with way far less skillful like him hahaha...it does work well but some times it confuse some bassist that was following the chord or notes i'm playing

he had effectively incorporated this fretting style, so it's second nature. same goes for Marty Friedman's weird picking hand posture :-)
