My new Tesla pickups went into my Yamaha RGX-A2. First impressions:
- Much brighter responses from both units. The default Yamaha pickups were acceptable but they lack that extra edge at the top end & the neck definition suffered the most. This neck model manifested a more appealing clarity which complements my playing.
- Distortion! My main gripe with the default Yammy pickups was the fact that they sounded fantastic clean but were under-performing with drive/distortion dialed up & I do lots of distortion. There was indeed a need to replace those default pickups & this Tesla pair did the job real well in this application. I've yet to try them with pedal distortion, this will happen soon. Hopefully.

what type of tesla was that? i didn't find any P90 with double row 'humbucker' type on tesla website
Secret model, bro. Will share soon...
Sub, can I check, tone and sound wise... how is the P90 humbucker different from a Mini-Humbucker?
I am thinking the magnet size is probably about the same for them to fit into a P90 cavity.
Hence amount of wiring and resistance would be similar?

yo bro- mini humbucker (as in the LP Deluxe) has the same size as the P-90. gibson had the dimensions identical :-)
i've come across 3 P-90 sized humbucker thusfar, i must say this TESLA version has the fullest sounding manifestation, in fact it sounds like a regular-sized humbucker. the default Yamaha version sounds splendid clean but the output couldn't give me the appealing humbucking tone i wanted. i used to have DiMarzio's DLX Plus once- again, it sounded like a regular-sized humbucker + all the dimarzio signature on board- very smooth sounding :-)
Thanks for the feedback!
It is interesting to read as I've been reading up on retrofitting P-90s for awhile.
The hum in P-90s can get a little irritating sometimes...
On most online forums... Duncan Antiquities mini-humbuckers are highly recommended by most people when it comes to swapping out their P-90s.
Will wait for your post on how you come by this secret model.
Cheers!
