Ibanez RGD320: Back in action

Ibanez RGD320- not mine, belongs to my friend, Fabian. I'm helping him with the action settings.

The Edge III bridge was lowered but the tension wasn't compensated so it led to the bridge reclining itself into the cavity.

OK, done. Bridge was re-adjusted & guitar is ready for collection. I only agreed to do this because I had some prior encounters with the Edge III.

i think setting edge-III action was much easier than FR-special

they both require some balancing act- string tension vs bridge spring tension. i did spend some time with both :-)

Hey Sub, the newer models are equipped with the edge zero two right?

Not sure if it's due to the pix, but you might want to double-check that tremolo angle - on the Edge III, the knife edge is not parallel to the base plate's top angle, so the tail end shoud stick more up to have it hit the post correctly. i've set up the EIII bridge many times & noted that if that parallel setting is observed, there's this inherent stiffness which makes the bridge inert & not return to that original prallel setting. meaning- once you whammy & re-look at the alignment- it'll be a little off. with the EIII, i always give the bridge springs a little more tension than the guitar strings, just that wee bit of authority to the springs.

i reckon if either the studs or knife edge materials are changed to something a little lubricant- friendly, this won't be an issue. i've also noted that EIIIs are, on the average, a little heavier than its counterparts. this might contribute to the extent of responsiveness.

but the EIIIs are IMO OK units compared to some of the licensed FR copies i've come across- simply horrible.

Hey bro, merry Christmas!!! =D

How is the feel of the EZII bridge, is it closer to that of the ZR trem or a conventional knife-edge one?

Hehe bro, must salute you on your immense knowledge of guitars!!!

Shouldn't compare it to the ZR, the EIII has no ball-bearings in there so it 'bounces' differently :-) it's closer to the knife edge unit but not as smooth. IMO the EIII should be phased out entirely since the EZ2 is such a more appealing unit.
